At the time this scheme provided a new public urban space alongside the University's new Lanchester Library which incorporates state of the art energy saving design features giving the building its distinctive appearance. Our landscape design of all the external hard and soft areas related the new site to the adjacent medieval priory whilst providing contemporary facilities for students and the public in the city to enjoy a new space.
A water feature creates an illusory causeway for the visitor at the entrance from which a series of pools descend to a lower terrace surrounding the building. A variety of outdoor sitting and study spaces are located on the south facing sunnier lawn slopes and new paved areas. Sensitive lighting along footpaths offer safe and attractive links at all times of the day into the rest of the campus and city streets.
