We had the task of providing landscape design services for this extremely popular tourist destination near Penrith in Cumbria. This included all the interior planting in the Village Centre building, a part of which is the Sub-tropical Swimming Paradise where the temperature is maintained at 29.5 C all year round. Very careful species selection was essential for all parts of the interior to survive in the different microclimates and under the pressure of visitor numbers. Much of the planting was personally selected by our project landscape architects from nurseries in Italy and America. In 1998 soon after the holiday village opened the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) selected the scheme which had been implemented by Frosts Landscape Construction Ltd to receive the Principal National Award for Interior Landscape.
